Monte Carlo simulations are powerful—but not everyone needs to see the underlying node diagram. Sometimes your audience just wants to plug in their numbers and get an answer.
Calculator Mode transforms any Carlo simulation into a clean, embeddable calculator. No canvas, no complexity—just inputs, outputs, and results.
See It In Action
Here's a FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) simulation embedded as a calculator. Enter your starting portfolio, expected returns, and spending rate to see your probability of reaching financial independence.
How It Works
Calculator Mode extracts all the editable parameters from your simulation and presents them as a clean form. Users enter their values, click Submit, and see the simulation results—all without needing to understand the underlying model.
Add ?mode=calculator to any embed URL to enable Calculator Mode. That's it.
For curious users who want to see how the model works, the calculator title links to the full simulation where they can explore the complete node diagram.
Use Cases
Calculator Mode opens up new possibilities for sharing your simulations:
- ROI Calculators — Let prospects calculate their potential returns based on their specific inputs. Great for SaaS pricing pages and sales enablement.
- Pricing Estimators — Help customers understand costs based on their usage patterns. Usage-based pricing made transparent.
- Financial Planners — FIRE calculators, retirement projections, mortgage affordability, investment growth scenarios.
- Risk Assessors — Allow clients to model different scenarios and see probability distributions of outcomes.
- Project Estimators — Budget forecasting, timeline projections, resource planning with uncertainty built in.
- Insurance Quotes — Premium estimation based on risk factors, with Monte Carlo uncertainty quantification.
- SaaS Metrics — CAC payback calculators, LTV projections, churn impact models for your customers.
- Real Estate — Rental yield projections, cap rate calculators, deal analysis tools.
How to Enable Calculator Mode
There are two ways to create a Calculator Mode embed:
Option 1: Use the Share Dialog
When sharing your simulation, go to the Embed tab and enable "Embed as calculator". The generated embed code will automatically include Calculator Mode.
Option 2: Add the URL Parameter
Manually add ?mode=calculator to any embed URL:
<iframe
src="https://embed.getcarlo.app/your-simulation-id?mode=calculator"//embed.getcarlo.app/your-simulation-id?mode=calculator"
width="100%"
height="500"
frameborder="0"
></iframe>
Customize Input Fields
You can constrain inputs and display units to guide users toward valid values. For each parameter variable name, add URL parameters:
{variableName}_min— Minimum allowed value{variableName}_max— Maximum allowed value{variableName}_step— Step increment for the input{variableName}_unit— Unit to display (dollar, percent, years, etc.)
<iframe
src="https://embed.getcarlo.app/your-simulation-id?mode=calculator&annual_returns_min=0&annual_returns_max=0.30&annual_returns_unit=percent&starting_portfolio_unit=dollar&starting_portfolio_min=10000"//embed.getcarlo.app/your-simulation-id?mode=calculator&annual_returns_min=0&annual_returns_max=0.30&annual_returns_unit=percent&starting_portfolio_unit=dollar&starting_portfolio_min=10000"
width="100%"
height="500"
frameborder="0"
></iframe>
Supported units include dollar, euro, pound, and percent for automatic formatting with currency symbols and % signs.
Build Your Calculator
Turn your simulation into a calculator your audience will love. Whether you're building an ROI tool for prospects, a pricing estimator for customers, or a financial planning tool for clients—Calculator Mode makes Monte Carlo accessible to everyone.
